Nwajiuba, speaking at the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 on Wednesday, asked parents and guardians to disregard the rumours making the rounds. “June 8 school resumption date report is false,” he said. The minister also explained the federal government’s model that will ensure all students don’t return to school at the same time. COVID-19: Nigeria considers morning, afternoon classes for schools resumption The Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 has said it will soon release guidelines for the reopening of schools across the country. Although the guideline has not been released, an official said the schools will resume in phases with a batch resuming before the other. The government is also considering morning and afternoon classes, the official said. Nigeria’s COVID-19 Cases Cross 7000 As Confirmed Cases In Edo, Delta Rise By D jr Ceejay The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says the country now has 7016 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus. It said 339 of the cases were recorded on Thursday across the country. According to the figures releases on its Twitter handle on Thursday, the disease control body said about 2000 patients have been discharged while 211 deaths have been recorded. Lagos State continue to top the list with over 3000 confirmed cases while in the Niger Delta region, Edo State lead with 144 cases. Fa mily of three killed by thunder strike in Benue A tragic incident occurred at Tarau Gwer local government area in Benue state on Saturday night, as a family of three were killed by thunder strike.  It was gathered that the family died on the spot after the thatch house they were sleeping in was struck by a thunder, folllowing a heavy rainfall on Saturday. A man, his wife and their five (5) year old son died in the incident which has thrown the entire community into mourning. An eyewitness, Peter Kembe told The Nation that the incident is the first of its kind in the village.

Federal Government Plans To Reopen Schools Soon, Gives No Date Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, made the clarification on Thursday during the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 news conference in Abuja following rumours making the round the Federal Government would reopen schools in the next two weeks. The Federal Government had ordered the indefinite closure of educational institutions nationwide as part of measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
